The Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) is Pakistan's primary government-issued identity document, managed by NADRA. It is mandatory for all citizens aged 18 and above, and required for everything from opening a bank account and voting, to obtaining a SIM card, applying for jobs, and traveling domestically.

Step-by-Step Process

1
📁

Gather Your Documents

For a new CNIC: bring your B-Form (if previously registered as a child) or Family Registration Certificate (FRC), your parents' CNICs, and your birth certificate. For renewal: your existing (expired) CNIC. For corrections: supporting documents such as educational certificates, Nikahnama (for name correction after marriage), etc.

💡 Bring both originals AND photocopies of all documents.

🏢

Visit a NADRA Office or e-Sahulat Centre

Find your nearest NADRA Registration Centre using the office locator on the NADRA website (link below). Alternatively, authorized e-Sahulat outlets can process CNIC applications for a small additional service charge. No appointment needed for most centres — you receive a token number and wait for your turn.

📝

Fill in the Application Form

At the counter you will receive Form A (new CNIC) or Form B (renewal/correction). Counter staff are usually helpful. Double-check every field — especially the spelling of your name and your date of birth — as errors can be very difficult to correct later.

💡 Ask staff to review your form before submission — they will often catch mistakes.

Biometric Verification

At a dedicated biometric station, all ten fingerprints, your photograph, and your signature will be captured digitally. This takes about 5–10 minutes. Ensure your hands are clean and dry for accurate fingerprint scanning. Elderly applicants with worn fingerprints can request a manual verification process.
